Qatar 2015 Handball World Championships
The 24th Men’s Handball Championship was held in Qatar in 2015 with matches being held at three new multi-purpose halls specially commissioned and constructed for the event. Significant overlay was required to facilitate the tournament operations.
Plan, lead and manage the design, procurement, and construction of all temporary facilities at the three competition venues and three non-competition venues on behalf of the main contractor.
The Letter of Award was issued at the end of October and completion was required by the end of December ahead of tournament operations. This meant that design, procurement and construction had to be fast-tracked within a 60-day period. Within this extremely short period we developed and managed a previously untested supply chain to deliver all three competition venues and two non-competition against the backdrop of enormous political scrutiny and extremely delayed stadium precincts.
All venues and works were delivered on time and under budget with a spotless safety record and the main contractor’s reputation perceptibly enhanced. The project was also extremely successful from a commercial perspective and was fully closed out within 60 days after the culmination of dismantling.
