London 2012 Summer Olympic Games
In 2011 WNY were appointed by LOCOG to act as Main Contractor on a turnkey design & build basis and to project manage all elements of temporary overlay for the Box Hill, Hampton Court Palace and numerous other supporting sites along the 140Km road cycling route. In 2012 our joint venture with NUSSLI was awarded the Games Time overlay package. We were one of only two turnkey contractors appointed by LOCOG for the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

Plan, design, supply, construct, maintain and remove the temporary venues including all aspects of temporary overlay. This included acting as Principal Contractor and undertaking construction site supervision of all LOCOG functional areas and tier 2 technology partners. Achieve zero environmental incidents to ensure that the passage of the Olympic road cycling route would be safeguarded.
As a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC) the passage of the road cycling route through Box Hill was dependent on the approval of both The National Trust and Natural England. Transforming this highly sensitive site into a temporary venue fit for an Olympic road cycling competition required extensive planning and stakeholder engagement. Our planning, construction methodology and detailed design was subject to enormous scrutiny. The geography, topography, sensitivity of flora and fauna and overall working restrictions at the site provided enormous challenges often necessitating new product development and a level of sequencing and phasing more commonly associated with permanent construction.
Our successful delivery of the 2011 test event with zero environmental incidents proved the voracity of our approach and safeguarded the passage of the route for the Summer Olympic Games themselves. In 2012 we delivered the larger Games time scheme to unanimous praise from LOCOG and key stakeholders.
