WNY deliver Snowboxx Festival in Avoriaz, France
4 April 2016
Delivery of Snowboxx 2016, held for the first time in Avoriaz in the French Alps (1800m ASL), across 8 venues, represented a significant challenge for WNY and an international production team.
“Construction and delivery of the technical and production aspects of the event in the car free resort, in unseasonal climatic conditions, was only possible through the hard work and professionalism of a small but dedicated team. Everyone rose to the challenge and really delivered” - Production Manager Chris Sheppard
Local logistics were facilitated by the Avoriaz Tourist Office and the local municipality. An environment requiring Snowcats, skiddoos and daily grooming of the festival site by piste machines provided a change from the normal catalogue of on-site plant machinery, with the local expertise in its use crucial to delivery in this winter wonderland.
Hundreds of tonnes of snow were moved and sculpted to build a festival village in the heart of the alpine town. Temporary venues were created in existing facilities, as well as the use of existing bars, clubs, an igloo, Stash Park and tropical swimming pool complex..
“The mountains provide an ever changing and dynamic environment in which to work presenting some really unique challenges,” Stated PM Chris Sheppard, “It’s not on every project that technical equipment is trans-shipped by horse and cart to an Igloo, or must be acclimatised when coming from minus 10 degrees outside into a tropical pool party at 35 degrees.”
